The International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, Inc. (IALEFI) Instructor Development Course was designed to provide continuing education to individuals certified as firearms instructors. Foundation courses of the IDC include instructor level training on the most common defensive firearms – the handgun and modern sporting rifle. This specialized course requires proof of instructor status when registering by uploading of an instructor certificate.
Different proven methodologies will be used to enhance the teaching skills of the defensive firearms instructor. Hands-on skills will progress from instructional fight basics to the more complex and all participants regardless of skill level will find themselves challenged. Practical exercises will place an emphasis on both defense-minded operational skills and repeatable teaching methods. The most important experience will be the development of the instructional fight mind-set.
Throughout the two-day program, participants will experience a number of teaching methods designed to improve the professional value of instructors to those they teach. The information presented will prove especially useful in creating a positive training experience that will ultimately result in greater learning and safety.
Topics covered:
* active range safety * adult learning concepts for greater retention
* review of fighting fundamentals/positions * coaching strategies for natural action
* operational skills of various firearms types * concepts to skills to drills
* critical communications – what and when * police response review
* teaching the defensive fight * how to teach it back
* and much more
Student Equipment Requirements:
1) Handgun and holster with 2 magazines preferred – 300-rds training ammo
2) Semi-auto rifle with sling – 250-rds training ammo
3) Wrap around eye protection, ear protection and brimmed hat. Range appropriate apparel.
4) Hydration fluids and snacks
Registration Fee: website with instructions, copy of instructor certificate
